Dashain is the biggest festival in Hinduism. Celebrated for 10 days, it marks a triumph of good over evil. In Dashain, people put on a red Tika (blessing mark made from a paste of rice, yogurt, and red vermilion) on their forehead, symbolizing blessings and victory.
Behind their ear, the green Jamara (sacred barley sprouts) represents prosperity and good fortune, grown from seeds of barley, maize, or wheat. These elements are core to the festival, which unites families and communities across Nepal, India and other countries with Hindu population.
